IDVA & IDSVA Services
An Independent Domestic & Violence Advocate (IDVA) is a specialist support worker who helps people affected by domestic abuse access the support, information, and advocacy they need to stay safe and move forward. IDVAs work alongside survivors, helping them understand their options, navigate services, and access practical and emotional support tailored to their circumstances.
At Her Centre, we offer a range of specialist IDVA services designed to meet the diverse needs of our community:

Each service provides specialist support for different groups and circumstances, ensuring survivors can access the right help, at the right time, in a way that works for them.
“Thank you, thank you. I am so grateful that you are here and understand how overwhelming this can be.”
One Stop Shop (Women Only)
Our One Stop Shop is a free, drop-in service where you can get support, advice, and guidance if you’re experiencing domestic abuse. You’ll be able to speak to a Her Centre Independent Domestic & Sexual Abuse Advocate (IDSVA) as well as qualified Family Law Solicitors from GT Stewart Solicitors and Farani Taylor Solicitors, who can help with things like protective orders, court matters, and child arrangements. We can even start paperwork with you on the day, and if you qualify for legal aid, your case can be picked up straight away. If you’re not eligible, legal students are there to offer additional support.
Please note that this service is for women only. If you are a man experiencing abuse, please visit the Respect website.

This group is open to all Her Centre service users and to any women in Greenwich who have experienced abuse and want to influence local services.
Meetings take place every other month on a Monday at 12.00pm and consist of a mix of speakers such as the Director of Children’s Social Services and the borough’s Police Commander. We can ask questions about how they support women and have debates on issues that affect women such as child contact, harassment and building a career. Meetings also include a review of feedback on services in the borough run by Her Centre and Greenwich Domestic Violence & Abuse Services.
If you are interested in joining, please email naomi@hercentre.org.
“I enjoy the ESOL class because I can learn about other cultures.”

Active Bystander Training
If you want to help end violence against women and girls (VAWG) in your community, this training gives you the confidence and tools to act. You’ll learn when it is safe and appropriate to intervene, how to safely challenge harmful behaviour, support others, and recognise when intervention is needed. By the end, you’ll feel more empowered to make a positive difference and help create a culture where abuse is not tolerated.
